Do you always agree with grownups?

Have you asked your parents or other grownups, “Why do I have to do what you say?” Did they ever respond with “Because I said so?”

It may feel like a silly reason to do something. But your parents – and most other adults – are usually smarter than you think. Even if it feels like they’re just being mean when they say “no” to you, listen when they’re talking. They love you and want you to be safe, healthy, and happy. Setting rules and helping you choose what to do and say are part of their “job” as your parents.

On the other hand, don’t be afraid to ask them questions. They want you to learn as much as you can.

There will be times when you don’t agree with them about something: bedtime, how much ice cream is too much, or how many friends can come to your party. It’s okay to disagree. (Adults disagree all the time!)

Maybe you can turn those disagreements into discussions instead of arguments. How? Read the situations below.
