What could be more fun this fall on a cool Friday night or a warm Saturday afternoon than a party with friends before a football game? If you’re going to be watching one on TV, grab your board games or a deck of cards. Play during timeouts and at halftime! If you’re headed to the field to watch a game, go early and play some bean bag toss or Frisbee before the game starts.

In fact, if you have friends and family who want to go really early and “tailgate,” even better! Set up a portable grill in the parking lot and enjoy the party. We have shared some great ideas in the box to the right. They’ll help you make the most of your pre-game snacks or dinner!

Updated Chips & Dip

Trade traditional cheese dip and tortilla chips with mashed white or pinto beans and pita chips, and dig right in! Only YOU will know these are healthier.

Sweet & Spicy Cole Slaw

Instead of plain mayonnaise, spice up your cole slaw with a little horseradish, honey, or vinegar.

Less Devil-ish Eggs

Substitute plain Greek yogurt for mayo to give this favorite a protein boost.

Gobble Those Burgers

Well-seasoned ground turkey makes a delicious burger, especially when teamed with mozzarella cheese and mushrooms on top!

Just use skinless strips on skewers instead of offering everyone an entire piece.

Sneak some fruits and veggies onto your kabob. Green peppers, mushrooms, onions, pineapple, and peach chunks all work great on kabobs!

Making brownies? Use unsweetened applesauce instead of oil.

Baking cookies? Reduce their size so servings are smaller.

Frosting cupcakes? Use the sweetener from the stevia plant instead of sugar.

Bringing chocolate? How about chocolate-covered blueberries or raisins, or chocolate-dipped strawberries?
