Every year on the third Monday of January, United States citizens acknowledge and honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. His birthday was January 15, which is why we celebrate his life in mid-January.
We honor Martin Luther King, Jr., sometimes referred to as MLK or Dr. King, because he spent much of his life fighting for the equality of all people.
Spending MLK Day as a holiday can be relaxing. We think honoring Dr. King is even more important! How can you celebrate MLK’s good work?
MLK spent much of his life trying to get equal rights and justice for people of all colors, nationalities, and backgrounds. We hope you are inspired to be fair-minded and kind to all people, just like Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.!
