BURNS & BBQ
Be careful around the many summer time fires. Stay far back from your community’s fireworks displays. Be sure you feel for heat before touching coals or wood at campfire sites and on grills. Use wooden utensils instead of metal when making s’mores so they are cool to your touch.
SWIMMINGLY GOOD FUN
A day at the swimming pool is THE BEST! Be sure you obey the pool rules, like no diving into shallow water, no running, no pushing people into the pool, and using only non-breakable (no glass) water bottles and snack containers.
IVY, OAK, AND SUMAC … OH, MY!
Can you recognize poisonous plants? Keep the itch cream handy, but if you review what these plants look like you may not need it! A good rule of thumb is “leaves of three, let it be.”
Be sure you and your parents check for ticks after a long walk or bike ride in nature.
Have a talk with everybody in your family about staying together when you’re out in public. Make a plan so you know what to do if you get separated from each other.
DRINK LOTS OF WATER
We think this is so important we have a whole page of information about it – check out Page 21.
It’s always a good idea to have a first aid kit in the car. During the summer, it’s especially important so you’re ready for minor cuts and burns that happen while playing outside.
